UPMC is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to support the Family Care Silver Spring team/office in Mechanicsburg.

  • Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Shift/Hours: Monday-Friday, rotating day and evening shifts. Earliest day shift times starting from 7:00am and evening shifts lasting no later than 7:00pm - No weekends or holidays! HM will discuss schedule expectations and requirements during the interview process.

Responsibilities:

  • Check schedules and organizing patient flow.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
  • Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
  • Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  • Other front office responsibilities, as required.
  • Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

Medical Assistant:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Medical Assistant Senior:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
  • Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Medical Assistant, Expert:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or equivalent hospital program. OR Successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience. OR two years of direct patient care experience required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Performance evaluation at Solid/Strong/Good rating or higher.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33
  • Act 34
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
