Outreach Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Outreach Manager plans, coordinates, and executes outreach initiatives for the Sue S. Bancroft Women's Leadership Hall (Gallery) and the Center for Women in Government (CWG) in coordination with the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership. Responsibilities include developing, delivering, and assessing educational tours and interactive programs tailored for student, teacher, and community audiences associated with the Gallery. Additionally, the role involves crafting and publishing compelling social media content, maintaining the CWG and Gallery websites, and organizing special events. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluations system and in accordance with the University Policies and Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Associate Director, Center for Women in Government

Supervises: May supervise Student Assistants

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Creates, conducts, and evaluates tours, educational programs, and interactive workshops or programs for the Gallery.
  • Develops goals and objectives and implements projects using outreach and engagement strategies to meet the needs of visitors and program participants.
  • Manages logistics of scheduling and communications with various groups (i.e. schools, women’s groups, donors, etc.) for tours of the Gallery.
  • Coordinates outreach and marketing to enhance visibility both within and outside the University for the Gallery and the CWG.
  • Schedules, plans, leads, and/or hosts school tours, community events, and guest speakers.
  • Coordinates and conducts training of gallery tour guides.
  • Collaborates with internal and external evaluators to track and report program participation and demographics, make continual improvements to programs, and measure program outcomes and impacts.
  • Represents and promotes the CWG/Gallery locally and statewide, by speaking at schools, civic clubs, community groups, and professional organizations.
  • Ensures consistency and integration of messages and visual identity across all communication channels.
  • Manages the creation and distribution of weekly, monthly and annual communications for the CWG and Gallery.
  • Working with the JNIWL Manager of Marketing, collects, creates, and designs content and graphics for communications, including e-newsletters, digital media for web pages, social media, and others.
  • Maintains relevant web page content and social media presence for the Gallery and the Center for Women in Government.
  • Tracks data and analyzes return of various communication activities to evaluate effectiveness and provide recommendations for new approaches.
  • Manages social media accounts for the CWG/Gallery. Creates, organizes, and files for easy access, content to be used for marketing and outreach purposes.
  • Prepares and edits articles, e-newsletters, and press releases to showcase the work of the CWG and Gallery.
  • Works collaboratively with internal team members and in particular with the JNIWL Manager of Marketing.
  • Coordinates the selection, ordering, and organization of program supplies and consumables.
  • Contributes to the development and oversight of the mission, vision, and goals of the Gallery in the center-wide and institute strategic plans.
  • Provides outreach to campus community to increase awareness of educational opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required.

EXPERIENCE

Three years’ experience in creating community outreach programs or educational programs, preferably related to civics or history, events planning, hospitality, or any combination of relevant education and experience. Two years of experience managing and creating content for social media accounts.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn established community outreach practices and overall tour operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in a variety of settings, including public speaking, public tours and facilitating presentations.
  • Ability to establish or maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of community, students or interested groups.
  • Ability to think creatively and use new technologies to expand outreach and program impact via social media, use of graphic design software and communication tools.
  • Ability to maintain records, budgets, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work with patrons of various ages and learning abilities.
  • Ability to accurately prioritize and lead concurrent projects.
  • High level of computer literacy and skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Google Docs, Sheets, slides, forms, newsletter design, and Canva.
  • Knowledge and understanding of programming development and coordination.
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with an attention to detail; ability to read and edit copy.
  • High-level proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

The employee is required to travel occasionally and work a flexible schedule. The employee may be required to work occasional weekends and evenings.
