Job Summary

Performs clinical support duties for the providers in a medical practice setting while working at the top of licensure to facilitate patient care. Duties includes assistant in performing assigned treatments and procedures being closely supervised and working directly under the direction of Physicians and APPs.

Essential Functions:

• Annual Medicare Wellness visits
• Workloads
• Nurse visits
• Vital Signs
• Clinical functions:
• Administers shots, PPD and all Injections as requested by providers.
• Patient Assessment:
• Summary of vitals
• Patient medications, allergies, brief medical history
• Any preparations necessary prior to exam.
• Documentation:
• Verbal orders
• General patient information
• Nurses notes
• Patient call backs, prescriptions
• Medication administration:
• Accuracy
• Technique
• Appropriate paperwork
• Side effects verbalized to patient
• Customer Service
• Appropriately directs calls, takes accurate messages or responds to calls by utilizing medical knowledge of polices, procedures and practices.
• Prompt notification: phone follow up, postcard, delivery of recommendation
• LAB Line:
• Inputs medical information under the direction of the provider of care
• Anticipates Provider needs:
• Assistance with medical/surgical procedures
• Verbal order follow through
• Other miscellaneous supplementary department assignments:
• Message retrieval from voicemails and Universal Message Forms.
• Calling in or faxing Rx’s to pharmacies,
• Obtaining insurance pre-authorization as necessary.
• Writing insurance referrals
• Department Specific Duties/Expectations
• Attendance at all staff meetings/in-services
• Flexibility in working at all PC sites
• Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Basic Knowledge in operation of basic Medical and emergency equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year of experience in medical practice, hospital, or clinic setting
• Certified/Licensed in LPN
• Must have current CPR certification (or obtain within 90 days)

Patient Contact:

Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

• Neonate (0 thru 30 days)
• Infant (31 thru 12 months)
• Child (13 months thru 12 years)
• Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years)
• Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
• Geriatric (66+ years)

Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

Medium Work – Lifting up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 25 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds infrequently or up to 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Ergonomic Risk Factors:

• Repetition: Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.
• Forceful Exertion: The amount of physical effort required to perform a task (such as moving patients) or to maintain control of equipment or tools. The amount of force depends on the type of grip, the weight of an object or person, body posture, the type of activity and the duration of the task.
• Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.
• Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
