Job Description:

• Role: Histotechnician
• Department: 200290 Pathology
• Location: 1155 Mill Street, Reno, NV 89502
• Shift: M, T, Th, Fri, 2000-0630
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 40
• Call Requirements: To be discussed in interview

Licenses Required:

• State of Nevada Laboratory Assistant
• Nevada Histologic Technician license

Certifications:

• Histologic Technician Certification preferred

Experience:

• 3 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant in Histology or a Clinical Laboratory Histology Technician preferred
• Prior travel experience required

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform operational tasks in the Histology Department under the guidance of Lab Leadership and Pathologists
• Assist with specimen grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining (H&E and special stains)
• Conduct slide quality checks and operate/maintain histology instrumentation
• Handle accessioning, charting (daily logs), and assist with bone marrow biopsies and aspirations
• Execute advanced duties including immunohistochemical staining and QC of new reagent lots
• Engage in support tasks for laboratory operations, including clinical lab assistant duties such as filing blocks/slides and frozen room maintenance
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of procedures and demonstrate competency in work-related skills annually
• Provide direct patient care, considering the age of the patient and ensuring effective communication with a diverse patient population

• Fast-paced clinical laboratory that operates 24/7
• Serve a wide-ranging patient population from a Level 2 trauma center
