Responsibilities

The HIM Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Health Information Management department, ensuring the accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient health information. This role includes managing staff, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise daily operations of the HIM department, including vital records, documentation, and record management.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding health information.
• Oversee the HIS process to ensure accuracy and timely completion of medical records.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance the quality and efficiency of health information management.
• Train and mentor HIS staff, providing ongoing support and professional development.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve issues related to health information.
• Conduct regular audits of medical records for quality assurance and compliance.
• Manage the release of information processes, ensuring patient confidentiality and adherence to legal standards.
• Stay current with industry trends and changes in regulations impacting health information management.
• Prepare reports and presentations for management regarding departmental performance and compliance metrics.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

Five (5) years of experience in health information management.

PREFERRED

RHIA or RHIT certification.
Two years supervisory experience.
1 year previous experience with imaging system.
