Graduate Nurse Residency – Surgery – February 2027

Come and join our Graduate Nurse Residency Program! We invite new graduate RN's to apply for this unique opportunity. The next cohort will begin on February 22, 2027.

Integrated into our Hospital’s education structure, the Texas Health Graduate Nurse Residency Program includes a guided clinical experience with an instructor-led core curriculum, a formal mentoring program, informative debriefing/self-care sessions and supportive 360-degree evaluations. Residents not only participate in the learning experience on their personally selected home units, they also rotate/cross train through other departments to gain an expanded nursing experience vital to the complex patient care.

The Texas Health Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, evidence based on-boarding program with a 15-month employment commitment that offers new graduate nurses an exciting opportunity to gain the experience, judgment, skills and confidence to successfully navigate the complexity of hospital life.

Where you will be working:

• Work location: Texas Health Frisco, 12400 N. Dallas Parkway, Frisco, Texas
• Work environment: Operating Room
• Robotics
• Orthopedics
• Spine
• General Surgery
• Urology
• ENT
• Plastics
• Ophthalmology
• OB-GYN

Work hours: Full-time- 40 Hours; Rotating Shift; Five – 8-hour shifts; No weekend requirements during training. As training progresses, the GN will begin taking buddy call and transition to independent call. Approximately 2-3 call shifts per month. Schedule after training will be based on department needs.

• Official nursing school transcript (Unofficial transcript accepted until official is available)
• Exemplar/Essay: In one-to-two pages, tell a story of a clinical situation that was especially meaningful to you as a student nurse and that has helped shape your practice today

Things you need for the position:

• ADN (Associates Nursing Degree) is required upon hire; BSN preferred
• Graduated within the last 12 months preferred
• Less than one year experience at the time the residency begins preferred
• Have not previously completed a THR nursing residency preferred
• Current RN licensure (Texas or Compact State). Boards MUST be passed, and results verified by noon the Wednesday prior to start date.
• BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Expiration within 90 days of hire

Texas Health Frisco - Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern Medical Center have collaborated to build a new health care campus in Frisco that includes a hospital, medical office building, parking garage, green space and many amenities, including a walking trail and café. Texas Health Hospital Frisco is a health care campus designed to be a destination for the residents of Frisco and surrounding communities.

Texas Health Frisco Hospital is a 73-bed full-service facility that includes surgical, imaging services, women and children’s services. The hospital has a 24-hour emergency department, a neonatal intensive care unit level II, orthopedics, Med-Surg and critical care. Texas Health Frisco has hired over 300+ employees including nursing, surgical, respiratory, imaging, therapy, pharmacy, materials management, patient care techs, quality, risk, engineering, security, and patient access. Additionally, UT Southwestern is planning on bringing the following specialties to the campus: neurosciences, orthopedic surgery, oncology, ENT, and pediatric subspecialties.
