Description/Job Summary

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science (SC) delivers the foundational discoveries and large-scale scientific tools required to transform the nation’s understanding of nature while advancing U.S. energy, economic, and national security. SC is the federal government’s largest sponsor of basic research in the physical sciences and the lead agency driving fundamental research for the nation's energy future. SC’s eight core program offices work closely with the national laboratories and research universities to advance scientific knowledge.

The position will provide travel-related technical support for SC’s Corporate Business Operations and assist staff in the eight core program offices with planning, executing, and tracking travel for program-related events and activities. This role works to ensure SC staff comply with the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR), DOE travel policies, and specific conference management restrictions, serving as a critical operational bridge for agency personnel traveling domestically and internationally.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to SC staff to execute planned travel using CGE.
• Verify all SC travel complies with FTR guidelines.
• Support the execution of invitational travel requests as directed by Science’s federal travel supervisory chain-of-command.
• Prepare travel reports showing status of SC travel, as appropriate.
• Support international travel of SC staff as identified in DOE foreign travel systems.
• Maintain clean, auditable tracking spreadsheets and databases of all program-related travel and conference expenditures.
• Generate weekly reports for program managers to monitor travel budget burn rates.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Required to work onsite in DOE’s Germantown MD office at least 4 days a week.
• Required to have in-depth knowledge and experience with Federal Travel Regulations (FTR).
• Required to have at least three years of professional experience using GovTrip/Concur Government Edition (CGE).
• Experience assisting federal travelers with creating detailed itineraries, managing reservations, and processing complex multi-destination or international travel authorizations.
• Knowledge of DOE travel policies and specific conference management practices is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
