Job Description:

The Data Scientist II in the Developmental Network Neurobiology Laboratory in the Division of Pediatrics Neurology within the Department of Pediatrics will oversee and maintain the lab’s data infrastructure while developing and optimizing code for AI-focused research projects. Projects might include working with neuroimaging datasets that consist of clinical, child and adult populations. This position will provide technical support to researchers, analyze complex datasets, and communicate findings to the Principal Investigator. The Data Scientist II will ensure thorough documentation of workflows, code, and results, and contribute to the overall support and progress of ongoing lab initiatives.

Develop and maintain the lab’s data infrastructure:

Design, organize, and oversee the lab’s data infrastructure, including databases and ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility for research purposes. Implement best practices for data management, backup, and version control, and support scalable solutions for growing datasets.

Develop, implement, and optimize code for AI Initiative Project:

Write, test, and maintain efficient, well-documented code to support machine learning and AI-driven research projects. Collaborate with researchers to translate scientific requirements into technical solutions. Optimize algorithms and workflows for performance, scalability, and reproducibility.

Analyze and interpret complex datasets; report findings:

Process and analyze large, complex datasets using appropriate statistical, computational, and visualization techniques. Interpret results in the context of research goals and clearly communicate findings, insights, and limitations to the Principal Investigator and team.

Provide technical support to lab members:

Assist postdoctoral researchers and other lab personnel with troubleshooting code, software tools, and data-related issues. Offer guidance on best practices in programming, data handling, and computational workflows.

Document workflows, code, and results:

Maintain clear and thorough documentation of data processes, codebases, analytical methods, and research outputs. Ensure reproducibility and facilitate knowledge sharing across the lab.

Provide general support for ongoing projects:

Contribute to a variety of lab activities as requested, including collaborative research tasks, system improvements, and ad hoc technical or analytical support to advance project goals.

Expected Salary:

$78,000 - $83,000; commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience; Master’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and one year of experience; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and one year of experience or equivalent advanced training; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis and programming, with experience using multiple analytic tools (e.g., SAS, R, Python, SPSS) and developing reusable, well-documented code.
• Strong data science and management skills, including preparing analysis-ready datasets, implementing quality checks, and working with relational databases and SQL.
• Proven ability to work independently with initiative, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality work with minima supervision.
