The Division and Research Environment The Division of Hematology & Oncology at the University of Florida is a leading academic division dedicated to advancing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer and blood disorders through exceptional patient care, innovative research, and outstanding medical education. Supported by more than 40 clinical faculty members and 15 fellows, the Division encompasses three clinical programs: Medical Oncology, Classical Hematology, and Hematologic Malignancy, Transplant and Cellular Therapy. With a commitment to academic excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration, the Division is dedicated to advancing clinical practice, scientific discovery, and the next generation of leaders in hematology and oncology.
The Division provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services spanning a broad spectrum of solid tumors, benign and malignant blood disorders, and complex hematologic malignancies, including advanced transplant and cellular therapies. Its Hematologic Malignancy, Transplant and Cellular Therapy program recently achieved reaccreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) across all aspects of the program. The Division also maintains a strong commitment to education and mentorship, with an expanding fellowship program that will introduce a Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) fellowship in FY28 to further advance physician-scientist development and translational research.
Division faculty lead and participate in clinical and translational research spanning solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, transplantation, and cellular therapy. Through their research efforts and collaboration with the UF Health Cancer Institute (UFHCI), faculty contribute to the advancement of cancer care and the development of innovative treatments. Across UFHCI, nearly 1,000 subjects are enrolled annually in interventional cancer clinical trials, reflecting the broader institute’s clinical research enterprise and providing opportunities for multidisciplinary investigation and the translation of scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
Cancer-focused faculty in the UF Division of Hematology & Oncology are members of the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute (UFHCI), Florida’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer institute based at a public university. UFHCI integrates comprehensive patient care and innovative research in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, with members representing all 16 colleges at the University of Florida. The University of Florida is ranked No. 8 among public universities by U.S. News & World Report in its 2027 rankings and No. 9 among public universities by Forbes in its 2027 rankings, reflecting its standing as a premier public research institution committed to discovery, innovation, and academic excellence.
The University of Florida is a Top‑10 public research university with six health colleges, numerous centers and institutes, and an integrated academic health center that supports collaborative care and discovery across the continuum of medicine. UF Health Shands Hospital is a large quaternary referral hospital with multiple nationally ranked specialties and a broad catchment area. Faculty benefit from a rich research ecosystem, including an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Institute and multiple disease-focused centers, as well as strong graduate and postdoctoral training programs.
UF offers a competitive compensation plan with opportunities for incentive earnings, university-paid health, life, and long‑term disability insurance, retirement programs with employer contribution, professional liability protection, and relocation assistance. Academic rank and track will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
