Central supply inventory control specialist - per diem

Working under indirect supervision is responsible for multiple aspects of inventory control required to maintain an effective par-level replenishment process of medical and surgical supplies on clinical units/areas (clean utility rooms, medication rooms, nurse servers, and anesthesia workrooms). Conducts inventory counts, inputs inventory data into the Materials Management information system, puts supplies away in proper inventory locations and maintains neat and orderly par-level stocking locations. Dependent on location assembles case carts according to case cart list per clinical procedure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs inventory counts of medical, surgical and other supplies maintained in par-level locations (clean utility rooms, medication rooms, nurse servers, and anesthesia workrooms). Accurately performs counts of on hand quantities to restore supply levels to their designated par-level. Utilizes handheld portable devices to input par count data. Uploads counts into the Materials Management information system and verifies that data has been successfully transmitted into the system.
• Maintains all par-level locations in a organized, neat and orderly fashion, ensuring that all supplies are stocked on the appropriate shelving in designated bins with the supply labeling clearly visible. Ensures supplies are not stored on floors or on top shelves that could obstruct fire sprinkler equipment. Removes supply overstock, empty supply boxes, and supply related trash from par-level locations. Reports any overstock problems to the Supervisor.
• Transports supply carts containing totes to the appropriate par-level location and puts supplies away in designated locations. Verifies the completeness and accuracy of the order by comparing the par-level quantities on the tote packing slip to the actual quantities received. Corrects discrepancies by removing overstocked items or by pulling correct or additional items from the Central Issues stock and delivering to appropriate par-level location. Identifies any discrepancies and reports to the Inventory Coordinator or Supervisor or Team Leader.
• Ensures proper transport of carts and totes to prevent damage to items or hallway walls or doors in par-level locations. Ensures that all supplies from the totes are removed and put away using proper handling techniques and that no trash is ever mingled with clean supplies or placed in totes.
• Monitors supply utilization trends and requests par-level changes as necessary. Observes supply levels in the par-level locations and reports low stock levels or stock outages to the appropriate Supervisor. Generates a daily backorder report and is responsible for ensuring that back ordered items are replenished to the par-level locations as stock arrives.
• Inspects and rotates all supplies to ensure sterile packaging integrity and current expiration date. Removes any expired items from the shelf. Develops familiarity with all types of packaging and supplies stocked on the par-level locations.
• Assists in collecting equipment, both clean and soiled, when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• High School Diploma/GED - minimum

Experience

• 2 years Inventory Control experience, preferably in a health care setting - minimum

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
