Sports have the power to build confidence, teach resilience, create lifelong friendships, and inspire healthy habits that last a lifetime. As an After School Sports Instructor, you'll introduce elementary and middle school students to the joy of movement, teamwork, and healthy competition through engaging after school sports programs. Whether you're coaching Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball/Baseball, Track and Field, or another sport, you'll help young athletes build new skills while creating an environment where every participant feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to succeed.
Working alongside school districts, after school programs, and community partners, you'll create experiences that strengthen confidence, promote belonging, and help students discover what they're capable of both on and off the field. If you're passionate about coaching, mentoring young people, and making a positive impact through sports, we'd love to have you on our team. This is a grant funded, seasonal position supporting school based after school programs during the academic year.
This is a part-time, seasonal position that follows the school calendar and is offered during the academic year on school days only. Instructors typically work 2 to 3 days per week, approximately 6 to 10 hours each week, with afternoon hours that fit well with school schedules. Depending on the program, additional opportunities may be available to support practices, tournaments, special events, family engagement activities, or staff trainings throughout the year.
We're looking for enthusiastic coaches, mentors, athletes, and leaders who believe sports can change lives. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young people, creates positive and inclusive experiences, and understands that every practice is an opportunity to build confidence, character, and lifelong skills. Whether you're an experienced coach, an aspiring educator, or someone passionate about youth sports, you'll thrive in this role if you enjoy inspiring others and leading by example.
Whether you're starting your career, building new skills, or looking for meaningful work that fits your schedule, the Y is a place where you can grow, make an impact, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
At the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Every day, our Team Members help strengthen communities by creating spaces where children, teens, adults, and families experience belonging, discover their potential, and build meaningful connections. If you're looking for meaningful work where you can inspire the next generation through sports while making a lasting impact in your community, we'd love to welcome you to our team.
