The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.

Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider will provide comprehensive care to patients for outpatient Chest Oncology Program within the Section of Hematology/Oncology in The Department of Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provides a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice, and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.
• Manages the care of patients, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for assigned patients including those with lung cancer, thymomas, and mesothelioma.
• Documents history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic at University of Chicago.
• Helps arrange diagnostic tests, follows-up on tests, and other patient care issues.
• Staff clinics as assigned; attends multidisciplinary conferences and research meetings of the Chest Oncology Program.
• As part of duties, performs reporting for government agencies, charts review, refills prescriptions, and answers phone calls for patients for whom the advanced practice provider is involved with longitudinal care.
• Attends conferences and continuing education courses to keep abreast of updates in the management of hematology/oncology patients.
• Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
• Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications:

Once licensed and as needed, apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number. Privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Conduct physical examinations and health assessments. Interview and obtain medical information. Proficiency in the use of computers.

Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills. Enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
