About the opportunity
Do you want to build 6G before it becomes a product? In Technology Testbeds we design and build new concepts and algorithms into prototype 6G radio access systems and run them over the air with real radio hardware. The results shape Ericsson's technology roadmap.
We are part of AI & Technology Foresight in Business Area Networks, and work between research and product development. Our areas are radio design, signal processing, AI/ML, software and compute platforms.
We are looking for System Designers who want to invent new concepts, turn them into working systems and see what they can do.
What you will do
- Invent and develop concepts and algorithms for 6G radio, signal processing and AI/ML.
- Design system and software architecture for platforms that combine real-time and asynchronous parts, from hardware-near code to scalable high-level software.
- Build, integrate and demonstrate complete systems over the air, from algorithm to working prototype.
- Lead technical studies and design work and influence technical direction.
- Collaborate across disciplines to turn complex ideas into working solutions.
Impact and visibility
- Show your work live. The 6G testbed is demonstrated at events such as Mobile World Congress, and to customers.
- Influence Ericsson's 6G technology roadmap and product decisions.
- Turn what you invent into patents.
- Work with Ericsson Research, product development units, customer units and external partners.
Skills you bring
- A PhD, or an MSc with a few years of relevant work experience, in telecommunications, software, signal processing, data science or a related field.
- A record of solving hard technical problems, and a passion for simple solutions to complex problems.
- The ability to lead technical work, pick up new technologies quickly and explain them clearly.
Experience in one or more of these areas is a plus:
- Algorithms: signal processing, AI/ML, applied mathematics.
- Architecture: RAN and 3GPP system architecture, software architecture, distributed systems.
- Implementation: real-time systems, Linux, and systems programming in C, C++ or Rust, including memory, concurrency and the cost of abstractions.
- Prototyping: Python, Julia or MATLAB for experiments and data analysis.
- AI-assisted development: effective use of generative AI tools.
- Hardware and lab: SDR and RF, compute accelerators, networking, and debugging on real hardware.
You do not need to match every item on the list. We value strong fundamentals, a collaborative mindset and the curiosity to learn what comes next.
