We are now looking for an Acoustician with a strong background in building acoustics and environmental noise to join our growing Acoustics, Sound and Vibration team in Sweden, with around 80 acousticians across the country.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious acoustic engineer who wants to work on challenging projects, collaborate with leading specialists across disciplines and contribute to projects both in Sweden and internationally.

Job Description

About the role

As an Acoustician at AFRY, you will work with a broad range of projects within building acoustics and environmental noise. You will be involved from early-stage studies and concept development through detailed design and construction.

Your work may include:

• Building acoustics and acoustic design of residential, office, educational, healthcare and public buildings
• Environmental noise assessments related to road and rail traffic, industry and urban development
• Acoustic calculations, modelling and simulations
• Noise mapping and prediction
• Evaluation of acoustic measurements
• Development of acoustic solutions, strategies and mitigation measures
• Preparation of technical specifications
• Providing expert advice to project teams

Qualifications

You will be part of a collaborative team where knowledge and experience are actively shared across offices. We are looking for an open-minded and collaborative acoustic engineer who enjoys working with colleagues from different backgrounds, disciplines and levels of experience. You combine strong technical competence with curiosity, a willingness to share knowledge and an interest in developing both yourself and those around you.

We believe you have:

• A university degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, building physics or a related field
• 5+ years of professional experience as an acoustician or acoustic consultant
• Solid experience in building acoustics and/or environmental noise
• Experience of acoustic calculations, modelling and technical analysis
• Experience working in multidisciplinary construction or infrastructure projects
• The ability to communicate complex acoustic issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A structured and independent way of working
• Strong written and spoken English
• Experience in building acoustics within healthcare projects is particularly valuable.
• Experience with software such as SoundPLAN, CadnaA, CadnaB, SONArchitect, INSUL, Bastian, Odeon, Treble, Rhino/Grasshopper, Sketchup, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM is an advantage. Experience with equivalent tools is also highly relevant.
• Knowledge of Swedish acoustic standards and regulations is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
• Knowledge and experience within the following areas are particularly valuable:
• Façade and window sound insulation calculations with respect to road and rail traffic noise
• Airborne sound insulation calculations between rooms
• Impact sound insulation calculations between rooms
• Preparation of drawings and documentation specifying acoustic requirements for walls, glazed partitions and doors
• Sound transmission calculations between rooms, including break-in and break-out noise through ventilation ducts
• Noise assessment of air handling units and ventilation fan systems
• Room acoustic simulations and calculations, including reverberation time and Speech Transmission Index (STI).
