Sr. facilities engineer

Summary

The Senior Facilities Engineer – Sterilization will support multi-year sterilization infrastructure projects within a medical device manufacturing facility, serving as the Owner’s Representative Engineer to oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and improvement of critical infrastructure, including HVAC, exhaust systems, chillers, boilers, compressed air, electrical utilities, and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This role requires independent project execution, technical expertise, and effective collaboration with internal stakeholders, engineering firms, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and oversee modifications to equipment, machinery, buildings, and facility infrastructure.
• Manage sterilization infrastructure projects from design through implementation and commissioning.
• Evaluate technical specifications, regulatory requirements, construction feasibility, and project schedules.
• Coordinate with architecture and engineering firms to develop design criteria, layouts, and detailed drawings.
• Prepare bid packages, construction contracts, and cost estimates covering equipment, installation, labor, and materials.
• Oversee construction and installation activities to ensure compliance with approved specifications, drawings, and schedules.
• Support commissioning and qualification of critical facility systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and infrastructure performance.
• Communicate project progress, technical risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and review the work of junior engineering professionals when required.
• Travel to other sites approximately 5–10%, based on project needs.

Requirements

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with at least 4 years of relevant experience

Required Skills & Availability

• Experience with mechanical and electrical infrastructure and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
• Knowledge of industrial or manufacturing facility operations.
• Ability to manage technical assignments independently with limited supervision.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project coordination, and communication skills.
• Willing and able to work 100% on-site in Villalba, Puerto Rico.
• Availability to travel approximately 5–10%.

Preferred Qualifications – Nice to Have

• Knowledge of HVAC, exhaust, plumbing, chillers, boilers, and compressed air systems.
• Experience designing or constructing cleanrooms and utility plants.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, engineering layouts, and schematics.
• Experience with integrated building solutions, including:
• Temperature control and critical environment monitoring.
• Power management and alarm systems.
• Zoned lighting and facility access controls.
• Familiarity with Tridium/Niagara or Siemens BAS.
• Facility commissioning experience.
• Background in medical device, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
• Practical knowledge of construction management and project execution.
