Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.

Your Impact

As a Team Lead, Security, you'll ensure the security of operations by monitoring compliance, addressing risks and implementing advanced security measures. You'll lead security activities that help identify vulnerabilities, strengthen site protection and support effective response to security incidents.

As part of our team, you will

• Assess compliance with security protocols and evaluate security measures to identify risks and recommend improvements.
• Analyse security system data and oversee access control systems to identify vulnerabilities and strengthen site security.
• Lead and supervise security personnel and contracted security teams to support safe and effective security operations.
• Deliver security awareness training and support the implementation of security technologies that enhance surveillance and protection.
• Lead investigations into security incidents, support emergency preparedness and provide security performance reporting to management.

Prerequisites for your success in this role

• 5+ years’ experience in security operations, including investigations, CCTV and control room environments.
• Formal qualifications in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or experience in a related field would be advantageous.
• Experience operating and managing physical security systems and investigating security incidents.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including team management, personnel supervision and conflict resolution.
• Strong report writing, data analysis and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Your work environment

This role is offered on a 21:21 Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea. Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp environment, with ensuite, air-conditioned accommodation equipped with a mini fridge, television and Wi-Fi. A variety of nutritious meal options are available through the on-site catering facilities, while recreational and social amenities provide opportunities to relax and connect with colleagues while on roster.

This is a people leadership role within the Security function, reporting to the Lead, Security and leading a team of 10 direct reports. The role works closely with security personnel, contracted security providers and local authorities to support site security.
