Your Tasks

This is a full-time permanent position (40 hours per week). Located in Auckland, New Zealand.

We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Design & Development team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading design work, mentoring others, and being hands-on across the full product development lifecycle.

About the Role

In this role, you’ll take the lead on mechanical product design while supporting and guiding a team of engineers. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products from concept through to production. You’ll also play a key role in strengthening team capability, particularly around CAD (CATIA) and development processes.

What You’ll Be Doing (Not Limited To)

• Leading mechanical design activities across development projects
• Designing and developing components with a focus on quality, cost, and manufacturability
• Creating and reviewing 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
• Supporting and mentoring team members, including CATIA training and guidance
• Collaborating with internal teams (engineering, quality, production, purchasing) and external partners
• Ensuring designs meet technical, customer, and regulatory requirements
• Contributing to project planning, timelines, and delivery milestones
• Supporting continuous improvement of design processes and systems (PDM, PLM, etc.)

Your Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years’ experience in mechanical or product design engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Industrial Engineering (or similar)
• Strong experience with CATIA (essential)
• Proven background in plastic component design, injection moulding, stamping, and tooling
• Experience working across full product development lifecycle
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams

Nice to Have

• Experience in automotive or similar manufacturing environments
• Knowledge of DFMEA and industry design standards
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems
• Hands-on workshop or prototyping experience
