Production Engineering Job Role Description

The Associate Production Engineer is responsible for maximizing asset value through optimization of production and injection systems from reservoir to sales point. Working closely with operations and across functional boundaries, they utilize data, tools and work processes to optimize to constraints and to identify, evaluate and prioritize opportunities to remove constraints. This role may support asset operations (locally or remotely) or be part of a technology development team.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance of production and injection systems, including measured & allocated phase rates, pressures, temperatures, and volume loss, then collaborate with the cross-functional team to develop optimized production/injection plans; ensure data is validated and adheres to applicable standards.
  • Support operations in troubleshooting performance deficiencies, managing non-routine operations (e.g. start-up, process upsets), implementing optimization opportunities, and planning/prioritization of data collection (e.g. well tests, sampling, field trials).
  • Create, sustain and/or utilize models of typical production and injection systems or system components to help quantify system potential and identify optimization opportunities (models may be physics based or data driven).
  • Apply fit for purpose economic analysis to evaluate routine optimization opportunities identified through surveillance and/or modeling and prioritize based on common value metrics.
  • Apply a continuous improvement/LEAN mindset to proactively identify and support implementation of efficiency opportunities, including but not limited to costs, operational practices and business processes.
  • Identify, select, develop and/or deliver technology solutions to meet business needs, leveraging industry practices and benchmarking to help prioritize solutions.
  • Build relationships externally with business & technology partners, COVs, vendors, and other third parties, as required by the position.
  • Participate in key cross-functional reviews of production & injection performance and network meetings.

Functional Skills

  • Production Well Testing & Well Rate Measurement
  • Artificial Lift Optimization
  • Production Data & Allocation Management
  • Production System Modeling
