This position sits within the Technology System team, part of Dyson’s world class Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. We are a multi-disciplinary team responsible for developing the cutting edge technologies that enable our products to have market leading performance and win the hearts of our users. We own and deliver the user-facing, primary function systems of our products.

About the role

Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for product’s system performances in the fields of Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, and Electrical Power management. You are required to set and control pressure budgets so that thermofluids system requirements are met. Similarly, you are required to set and control electrical budgets to ensure we can meet battery runtime requirements. You will be working with people from multi-disciplinaries, from Design teams to Manufacturing team, Motors team to Power Electronics team to deliver system performances at highest quality from end to end. You will use a mixture of simulations, calculations, tests, and engineering judgement to solve problems that arise as we develop out technologies and products. You will work from early stage of a project, taking responsibility of development when the technologies leave the research stage, developing them to a feasible solution, and then supporting our SEA counterparts to take them through the production.

Your core day-to-day responsibilities will be to:

• Identify and manage product/sub-assembly/part level challenges associated with system performances and resolve them successfully and independently.
• Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment while also working independently to achieve objectives.
• Work side by side with the Tech Lead and other engineering teams for allocated projects and provide technical consultancies.
• Develop and maintain system diagram to govern pressure and power budgets, ensuring adherence by all relevant teams.
• Conduct experiments and utilize appropriate analysis methods and tools to develop and validate solutions.
• Identify risk and keep all stakeholders up to date on progress and status of allocated projects.
• Familiarise oneself with relevant compliance standards to ensure product requirements are set and met accordingly.
• Confidently and clearly present and articulate ideas to audience in both written and verbal communications.
• Drive data analysis, ensure robust test methodology and conclusive proposals for timely delivery of solutions and verification report using basic competency in MATLAB, Minitab, Excel and/or Python.
• Ensure production testers are build robust with correct specifications are set.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with engineers across cross-functional teams at all levels.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. (other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered).
• Experiences related to fluid dynamics/motor R&D/particles dynamics along with analysis, data integration in product development.
• A sound understanding of experimental methods and processes, particularly regarding pressure, flow, and temperature measurement techniques.
• Proven to have the technical leadership and have good understanding of emerging new engineering development around the interaction between fluid, thermal, mechanics and material science.
• Proven record on the ability to lead multiple development projects based on strong sense of priority and system thinking.
• A good understanding of the principles and application of CFD methods.
• Application of any of the following tools and methodologies: CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, NI DAQs, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Arduino, Minitab, 8D problem solving, Lean Six Sigma, FMEA.
• Clear logical and critical thinking, with an attention to detail and deep passion for good design.
• High drive, sense of ownership, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment with a growth mindset.
• Strong interpersonal skills to lead, collaborate, and manage stakeholders, using written and verbal English. Mandarin would be an added advantage.
