The Emergency Medicine Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals presenting with emergent, urgent, and non-urgent medical conditions within a Military Treatment Facility Emergency Department. The RN supports mission readiness by delivering high-quality emergency nursing services in accordance with DoD, DHA, and professional nursing standards, including care in high-acuity and operational environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform rapid triage and assessment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Provide emergency nursing care for medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions across the lifespan.
• Administer medications, blood products, IV fluids, and other therapies in accordance with provider orders and clinical protocols.
• Assist with emergency procedures, resuscitation efforts, and trauma responses.
• Monitor patient condition and promptly recognize and respond to clinical deterioration.
• Accurately document patient care, assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, medics, and ancillary staff to coordinate care.
• Participate in mass casualty incidents, disaster response, and emergency preparedness activities.
• Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, HIPAA, and patient privacy requirements.
• Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Provide patient and family education related to emergency care, follow-up instructions, and discharge planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Education: Graduate of an accredited Associate, Diploma, or Baccalaureate degree program in Nursing (National League for Nursing or equivalent).

Licensure/Registration: Current, active, valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in at least one U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory. License must remain unencumbered throughout employment.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience within the past three (3) years. Experience in trauma, critical care, or austere medical environments preferred, isolated island.

Certifications (Required): Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) preferred. Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

Additional Requirements

• Must meet DoD credentialing, privileging, immunization, and deployment requirements.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required by mission needs.

Skills

• Strong clinical knowledge of emergency nursing principles and practices.
• Ability to function effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments, isolated island.
• Proficiency in emergency equipment, cardiac monitoring, and resuscitative techniques.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with DoD healthcare systems and emergency protocols preferred.

Working Conditions:

Must be capable of working in a tropical weather condition with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months). The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
