The Radiology Technician performs diagnostic imaging procedures to support patient evaluation and treatment. Responsibilities include operating imaging equipment, positioning patients, ensuring quality imaging, maintaining radiation safety, and collaborating with medical staff to provide accurate diagnostic information. The Radiology Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Department Lead or Medical Director and contributes to operational readiness in deployed or austere environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic imaging procedures including X-ray, CT, fluoroscopy, and other modalities as ordered.
• Position patients safely and accurately for imaging studies.
• Operate imaging equipment according to manufacturer and departmental protocols.
• Maintain radiation safety and adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
• Ensure quality of images and repeat procedures as necessary for diagnostic accuracy.
• Document imaging results in electronic medical records and maintain accurate patient files.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff for patient care.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of imaging equipment.
• Maintain inventory of imaging supplies and accessories.
• Participate in quality assurance, safety inspections, and continuing education programs.
• Educate patients on imaging procedures and radiation safety.
• Some on-call may apply.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. Use the guide below to determine education and experience for this position.

Education:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Imaging from an accredited program.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years performing diagnostic imaging procedures (X-ray, CT, fluoroscopy, or other radiologic modalities). Experience in deployed, military, or austere medical settings preferred.

Licensure / Registration:

Current, unrestricted state licensure or registry as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT certification preferred). Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

Certification:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Advanced certifications in CT, MRI, Ultrasound or fluoroscopy preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements:

Maintain licensure, certification, and BCLS for the duration of employment. Meet all deployment, security, and credentialing requirements. Ability to operate independently and provide high-quality imaging services in deployed or operational environments.

Skills:

• Expertise in diagnostic imaging techniques and patient positioning.
• Knowledge of radiation safety, imaging protocols, and equipment operation.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in austere or deployed environments.
• Awareness of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.

Working Conditions:

Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
