About the Liberia Team

Partnering with the Ministry of Health since 2007, the Liberia team pioneered the community health worker model that serves as a national blueprint. Originating in the remote Konobo District, their work demonstrated that professional community health workers could drastically increase health-seeking behavior and improve health outcomes, increasing skilled birth attendance from 55% to 84%. Led by Brittney Varpilah, the team champions a supervised, salaried, supplied, and skilled workforce to deliver primary care in the country’s hardest-to-reach regions. Beyond delivery, they strengthen health systems through high-level advocacy and policy design while upskilling the workforce through rigorous training and continuous quality improvement.

The Role

Do you have extensive experience and a proven track record of coordinating project rollouts, providing technical support for community-based family planning services, and collaborating with county and district health teams? If so, then you may be our next Project Coordinator, Scaling Sayana Press.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH), County Health Teams (CHTs), and District Health Teams, the Project Coordinator will help translate the approved project design, national family planning guidance, commodity tracking and processes, and service delivery protocols into consistent delivery across eight counties (Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Margibi, Nimba, Rivercess, Montserrado and Bomi). The Project Coordinator will promote equitable access, service delivery quality, reliable commodity availability, accurate data, continuous learning, and government ownership. The position will improve family planning availability for approximately 42,000 women and adolescent girls in rural and hard-to-reach communities covering 70% of the national population living more than 5km from the nearest health facility.

About Scaling Sayana Press Project

Sayana Press is an all-in-one presentation of subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC), an injectable contraceptive administered every three months. Liberia has used community-based provision of Sayana Press to bring voluntary family planning closer to women and adolescent girls who face long travel times and limited access to health facilities. The LMH-supported scale-up will strengthen and use existing MOH training, supervision, and supply chain systems to improve timely access to Sayana Press for more than 42,000 women and girls in rural and remote communities.

This position is fixed-term, on-site, and based in Monrovia, Liberia, and is only open to candidates who are Liberian nationals currently located in Liberia.

What You’ll Do

• Field Implementation, demand generation, supply chain, and continuous technical support
• Coordinate the development of information, education, and communication materials in local dialects to increase awareness of the availability of community-level family planning services, including Sayana Press.
• Provide continuous technical support to trained personnel at national, county, district, and community levels to ensure consistent and high-quality implementation of Sayana Press Service Delivery.
• Support or coordinate the procurement of 150,000 doses of Sayana Press to augment MOH’s planned allocation for the National Community Health Program and distribute approximately 230,000 doses to reach 42,000+ women, providing 18 months of contraceptive coverage (six injections per user, administered quarterly).
• Implement and monitor quality assurance mechanisms across service delivery activities, including adherence to clinical protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), correct use of reporting tools, and data accuracy standards.
• Facilitate feedback collection and integrate lessons learned into the family planning service delivery for continuous improvement.

Refresher Training, Supervision, and Monitoring and Evaluation

• Coordinate and support refresher training for CHAs to reinforce competencies in Sayana Press service delivery, referral, and reporting.
• Plan, coordinate, and support quarterly integrated supervision visits to the project implementation counties to assess the quality of Sayana Press service delivery, referral practices, access supply chain gaps, and address challenges.
• Oversee data entry and management using standardized tracking tools to ensure timely, accurate, and complete data capture to ensure accurate consumption and forecasting of Sayana Press for future procurement.
• Support implementation-learning, costing, evaluation, and knowledge management activities to inform continuous improvement, sustainability, cost reduction, and future national scale-up.

Advocacy and stakeholders’ coordination

• Plan and coordinate advocacy activities at the Ministry of Health, Subnational (County Health Teams), district, and community levels to raise awareness and generate demand for Sayana Press services.
• Build and maintain strong working partnerships with the Ministry of Health (MoH), County and District Health Teams, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.
• Actively participate in technical working groups (TWGs) and coordination forums to share updates, align strategies, promote learning, and advocate increased investments for Sayana Press Procurement.
• Participate in additional Programs or cross-team activities, as requested.
• Actively participate in the LMH Liberia program’s internal team technical working group meetings.
• Support other emerging Programs team needs as determined by the manager.

What you’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s degree with experience in the field of public health, Nursing, Community Health, Health Services Management.
• Relevant years of professional experience in one or more of the work areas highlighted in the job summary.
• Demonstrated experience working within the national and/or sub-national health system (community health workers program a plus); familiarity with government structures and processes.
• Demonstrated experience working in primary health care intervention.
• Familiarity with the Community Health Information System and DHIS2.
• Ability to diplomatically navigate complex stakeholder dynamics, proactively problem-solve, and achieve results and consensus with multiple influencers.
• Demonstrated experience in partner engagement and project management.
• Comfortable working in teams as well as acting independently in the implementation of specific tasks, prioritizing, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
• Robust knowledge management skills, including the advanced use of MS Office applications and Google Suite.

You’ll impress us if you have

• Digital health program design or implementation experience.
• Facilitation of training/capacity strengthening for adult learners.
• Knowledge of the application of AI for health service delivery.
• Knowledge of existing data being tracked in DHIS2, specifically community health data.
• Experience implementing an advocacy agenda with national and subnational government stakeholders.

For Liberia, the range is an annual gross of $13,404 to $22,340 USD, dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
