Job Purpose

As a VP of Engineering at Tarjama&, you will lead and manage the technology function across the company, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality technology solutions that align with the organization's vision and business objectives. You will oversee all engineering teams, drive operational excellence, enforce best practices, and create a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. This role serves as a key execution partner to the CTO, translating strategic direction into scalable and efficient engineering execution.

Duties & Responsibilities

Technology Leadership & Execution

• Lead the technology department in delivering scalable, secure, and efficient language technology platforms.
• Translate the technology vision from the CTO into actionable engineering plans, ensuring delivery of high-impact solutions.
• Define and track KPIs for team productivity, code quality, release velocity, and system uptime.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, development methodologies (Agile, DevOps), and best practices.

Product & Platform Engineering

• Partner with product management to define technical roadmaps, prioritize features, and plan delivery timelines.
• Drive full lifecycle development across multiple projects, ensuring on-time, in-scope, and in-budget releases.
• Oversee the integration of AI, machine learning, and NLP technologies into products to improve user experience and process automation.
• Ensure high system performance, maintainability, and scalability across platforms.

Infrastructure, DevOps & Security

• Oversee cloud infrastructure and deployment (Azure, AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing environments.
• Ensure system reliability, performance, and availability across services and platforms.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, driving proactive performance monitoring and incident response processes.

Team Development & Management

• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, managers, and technical leads.
• Define team structures, career paths, and performance goals to support long-term team growth and retention.
• Hire, onboard, and train top engineering talent, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and engineering health assessments.

Cross-Functional & Executive Collaboration

• Serve as the main point of contact between Technology, products, AI and other teams.
• Communicate technical strategy, progress, and challenges to executive stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
• Collaborate with the CTO, product leaders, and sales/client teams to ensure engineering priorities are aligned with business needs.
• Participate in customer and client conversations as a technical authority when needed.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure engineering operations adhere to regulatory requirements, including data protection and privacy laws.
• Identify risks related to architecture, systems, and delivery and implement mitigation plans accordingly.
• Support proposal development and project planning with technical feasibility assessments and estimates.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 16 years of technology leadership experience, ideally within the language services industry or related field.
• Strong technical background with experience in large-scale system design, cloud infrastructure, and AI/NLP technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to scale engineering teams and processes across multiple geographies and time zones.
• Deep understanding of software development methodologies and tools (Agile, CI/CD, DevOps).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent command of both spoken and written English and Arabic.
