Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Culture & People Experience team in the capacity of: Assistant Manager – Industrial Relations (Grade 3) Supports the effective management and delivery of the organization's industrial relations strategy, ensuring sound employee relations practices, compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, company policies, and established governance standards.
Provides professional and technical advice to management on industrial relations, employee relations, disciplinary matters, grievances, workplace investigations, collective bargaining, and employment-related issues.
Location: Kingston
As an Assistant Manager – Industrial Relations, you will:
- Provide expert advice and support to managers on industrial relations, employee relations, disciplinary, grievance, and workplace matters.
- Interpret and apply employment legislation, collective agreements, employment contracts, and HR policies, ensuring compliance and consistency.
- Support the management of disciplinary matters, grievances, complaints, investigations, and workplace disputes, ensuring procedural fairness and appropriate documentation.
- Conduct employment law and industrial relations research and identify legal, employee relations, and organizational risks, recommending appropriate action.
- Support collective bargaining, wage negotiations, union consultations, and clarification meetings, including research, preparation, costing, and negotiation support.
- Maintain effective relationships with trade unions, employee representatives, management, and team members.
- Guide and coach managers on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance, workplace conduct, and disciplinary processes.
- Support the development and review of HR policies, procedures, and industrial relations practices to ensure legislative and organizational compliance.
- Partner with HR Business Partners on organizational changes, workforce initiatives, and employee relations matters.
- Prepare reports, case analyses, recommendations, and management information on industrial relations trends, risks, disputes, and employee matters.
- Liaise with internal and external legal counsel on complex employment and industrial relations matters, as required.
- Proactively identify trends and recommend strategies to minimize disputes, manage risk, and promote positive employee and industrial relations.
What do you need?
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Three (3) years’ working experience in Human Resources.
- Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to remain objective and impartial when managing sensitive employee matters.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and influence managers and leaders.
- Ability to work collaboratively across HR and business functions.
