Vice President, Business Risk Management:

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management provides access to a wide range of wealth management products and services for individuals, businesses, and institutions, including brokerage and investment advisory, financial and wealth planning, credit and lending, cash management, annuities and insurance, retirement, and trust services.

Business Risk Management:

The Business Risk Management team is responsible for implementing and overseeing the product risk and control framework supporting several businesses, including Outsourced Chief Investment Office, Morgan Stanley Portfolio Solutions, and Global Investment Manager Analysis. The team partners closely with Product, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Audit, and other control partners to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, supervisory, technology, vendor, and control-related risks.

Position Summary:

Business Risk Management is seeking a Vice President to serve as a people manager and functional leader for a team responsible for Risk Management and Internal Controls. This individual will oversee a portfolio of risk management activities, provide leadership and direction to team members, ensure timely and high-quality execution of deliverables, and drive consistency across the team’s engagement with business units and control partners.

The VP will be responsible for setting team priorities, managing capacity across multiple workstreams, coaching and developing team members, and ensuring that the team provides effective risk management support to the business. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, the ability to manage through complexity, and a proven ability to influence stakeholders across functions and levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and People Management:

• Manage, coach, and develop a team of Business Risk Management professionals supporting risk management and internal control activities across multiple business areas.
• Set clear expectations, define team priorities, allocate work effectively, and ensure accountability for timely execution of key deliverables.
• Provide day-to-day guidance, feedback, and escalation support on complex risk, control, audit, and regulatory matters.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, sound judgment, professional development, and proactive risk identification.
• Drive consistency in team practices, documentation standards, stakeholder communication, issue escalation, and management reporting.

Risk Mitigation and Control Enhancement:

• Lead team efforts to identify, prioritize, and remediate control gaps and enhancement opportunities.
• Oversee remediation plans to ensure ownership, timelines, milestones, dependencies, and sustainable root-cause solutions are clearly defined.
• Ensure team members engage business stakeholders and support partners to implement improved processes and controls.
• Escalate significant or recurring control issues to Business Risk Management leadership and relevant governance forums.

Management Reporting and Stakeholder Communication:

• Manage the development of accurate, timely, and actionable risk and control reporting for Business Risk Management leadership and senior stakeholders.
• Review materials prepared by team members to ensure appropriate messaging, analysis, and escalation.
• Translate complex risk and control matters into concise updates and recommendations for decision makers.
• Represent the team and serve as a senior point of contact for business units, control functions, and senior management.
• Build trusted relationships with Product, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Audit, and other control partners.
• Balance business objectives with risk management expectations and control requirements while promoting a strong risk culture and effective partnership model.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in business risk management, operational risk, internal controls, audit, compliance, or a related control function.
• People management experience, including leading, coaching, and developing teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across business units, control partners, and management levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including senior management reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong knowledge of business process risk, operational controls, supervisory frameworks, control testing, Compliance, and Audit practices.
• Familiarity with technology risk, information security, vendor management, end-user computing, and user entitlement processes.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
