Purpose/Objective
The Project Coordination Engineer (Mechanical/Civil) shall be responsible for coordinating engineering activities between TCE (Tata Consulting Engineers), vendors, and site teams for thermal power projects. The position demands strong control over Vendor Master Document List (MDL), effective management of mechanical and civil interfaces, and timely resolution of engineering and site-related issues to support uninterrupted project execution.
Key Responsibilities of Role
- TCE & Vendor Coordination - Act as the single-point interface between TCE, mechanical/civil vendors, and internal project teams. - Ensure vendors strictly adhere to the approved Vendor Master Document List (MDL). - Monitor and follow up with vendors for timely submission of mechanical and civil documents/drawings as per approved schedules. - Review vendor submissions for completeness and technical compliance before submission to TCE. - Coordinate with TCE to ensure: - Timely review of submissions - Closure of comments - Approval / clearance of documents - Track document status and ensure no slippage in engineering deliverables.
- Mechanical & Civil Engineering Coordination Mechanical Discipline - Coordinate engineering for BTG & BOP mechanical systems, including: - Boiler auxiliaries and layout interfaces - Turbine hall equipment arrangements - Coal Handling Plant (CHP) - Ash Handling Plant (AHP) - Mill Reject Systems - EOT Cranes and Hoists - Cooling water systems (IDCT, NDCT) - Water Treatment & Chemical systems - Review GA drawings, layouts, piping arrangements, and equipment foundations interfaces. Civil & Structural Discipline - Coordinate civil and structural engineering related to: - Sub and Super structure - Equipment foundations - MPH, AHP and CHP Structure - Pipe racks and cable trenches - Roads and drains - Ensure coordination between equipment layouts and civil drawings to avoid clashes.
- Interface Issue Identification & Resolution - Identify, document, and maintain a comprehensive interface issue register covering: - Mechanical ↔ Civil - Vendor ↔ TCE - Engineering ↔ Site - Bridge communication gaps between multiple stakeholders through structured coordination and follow‑ups. - Conduct and participate in interface meetings and technical discussions. - Ensure interface issues are resolved without impact on design approvals or construction schedules.
- Site Coordination & Engineering Support - Act as the link between site execution teams and engineering offices. - Collect site queries, deviations, and execution challenges related to mechanical and civil work. - Coordinate with vendors and TCE to ensure: - Site queries are addressed promptly - Revised drawings are issued on time - Ensure site feedback is incorporated into engineering deliverables wherever required. - Support resolution of site non‑conformances and constructability issues.
- Planning, Monitoring & Document Control - Monitor engineering progress against project schedules and milestones. - Identify risk areas in engineering deliverables and initiate corrective action. - Maintain records of: - Engineering submissions and approvals - Interface issues - Site queries and replies - Prepare and submit engineering progress and coordination status reports.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance - Ensure all mechanical and civil engineering documents comply with: - Project specifications - Applicable standards and codes - Statutory and regulatory requirements - Ensure consistency between drawings, specifications, and vendor documents. - Support engineering audits, design reviews, and quality checks.
- Additional Project Coordination Responsibilities - Proactively identify engineering bottlenecks affecting site execution. - Support engineering inputs during construction, commissioning, and handover stages. - Coordinate preparation and finalization of as‑built drawings. - Promote clear communication and accountability across all stakeholders. - Ensure engineering deliverables support safe, efficient, and timely project execution.
