Platform operations engineer - fixed term contract

We have an opportunity for a Platforms Operations Engineer to join our team on a fixed term basis in the Isle of Man.

Job Purpose

The Platform Operations Engineer is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the Enterprise-Wide Infrastructure. They will be involved in project work and will provide support to the Platform Operations Lead. They are also required to provide support to the other IT departments as well as maintain and build relationships with third party service providers.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Maintain the operational status of the IT infrastructure whilst establishing and implementing continuous improvements.
• Provide monitoring, optimisation, tuning, capacity planning, testing and maintenance of designated services.
• Act as 3rd line support offering a point of reference and provide technical expertise to the IT Service Desk and IT Operations organisation ensuring high levels of client satisfaction are achieved.
• Identify and review existing systems which can be improved or optimised in line with business requirements.
• Assist with the delivery of sanctioned projects in a cost-effective manner, working within a team of IT resources, (both internal and external).
• Assist in the planning and design of systems upgrades and improvement plans (internally and externally supported) by implementing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements for hardware and software.
• Participate in production operational support to ensure our banking systems are performing and available.
• Maintain the data backup and recovery plans and provide IT business continuity and disaster recovery services. This will include co-ordinating regular recoveries of business-critical services adhering to Nedbank’s Business Continuity Policy.
• Resolve incidents and problems, implement changes and releases, as required.
• Maintain and build relationships with third party suppliers involved in the delivery of improvement plans/projects & where necessary with adherence to relevant Service Level Agreements in order to ensure agreed targets and standards.
• Assist in the definition, development and implementation of company's information technology and telecommunication system policies, procedures, and standards across all technical platforms.
• Take part in the infrastructure on-call rota to ensure our systems are supported 24x7.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in a Systems Infrastructure or Operations role.
• Have a proven track record in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex technical problems.
• Knowledge of technical and operational procedures and processes, that are in place within the System Operations Department.
• Experience in maintaining complex and Business Critical Infrastructure Systems.
• Enterprise Level Storage Systems.
• Enterprise-Wide Network Switching and Routing.
• Enterprise Level Anti-Virus.
• Enterprise Telephony Solutions.
• Enterprise Security Gateways/Appliances.
• Microsoft Windows Server Environments.
• Microsoft Back-Office Systems (SQL, 365, SCCM, AD, AAD).
• Virtualisation.
• Networking (Firewalls, Routers, Switches).
• Cloud Technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Experience working within a highly secure, regulated, and audited environment.
• Extensive knowledge of technical and operational procedures.
• Effective time manager, able to take responsibility for organising and prioritising workloads, and delivering to tight deadlines.
• Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with others in the Platform Operations department and wider Nedbank organisation. This will include taking part in, and contributing to, meetings as required.
• Motivated ‘self-starter’ who works on their own initiative to complete assigned tasks and the output of their work is always of a high standard.
