Communications & development manager

The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is seeking an experienced and imaginative Communications & Development Manager to lead an integrated function that connects public engagement, institutional reputation, membership, and philanthropic support.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Director, the Communications & Development Manager will lead NGCI’s institutional communications and help translate growing public engagement into stronger membership, partnerships and financial support. The successful candidate will develop and implement NGCI’s communications strategy, oversee campaigns and institutional messaging, lead media relations and protect and strengthen the Gallery’s public reputation. The role will also manage NGCI’s membership programme and an agreed development portfolio encompassing sponsorship, donor stewardship, grants and fundraising campaigns. The postholder will work closely with the Director and Board, who retain leadership of major donor relationships, sensitive sponsorships and the most significant funding approaches. This is a management and relationship-focused position. The postholder will directly supervise the Membership & Development Administrator and Social Media Officer. Routine membership administration and day-to-day social-media delivery will be undertaken by these supporting roles. NGCI’s Event Coordinator will lead the operational delivery of membership, cultivation and fundraising events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will:

• Develop sponsorship proposals, cases for support, grant applications and funder reports.
• Develop and implement NGCI’s annual communications and marketing plan.
• Lead institutional messaging, media relations, public relations and reputation management.
• Oversee the Gallery’s website, newsletters, campaigns, digital channels and content calendar.
• Direct and support the Social Media Officer, setting channel priorities, content standards and performance expectations.
• Strengthen NGCI’s individual, household and corporate membership programmes.
• Develop membership acquisition, engagement, renewal and retention strategies.
• Supervise membership administration, CRM records, benefits and communications.
• Manage an agreed portfolio of sponsors, donors, grants and fundraising initiatives.
• Coordinate cultivation and stewardship activity with the Director, Board and programme colleagues.
• Work with the Event Coordinator on membership, donor, sponsor and cultivation events.
• Use audience, membership and development data to evaluate performance and inform decision-making.
• Manage, support and develop the Membership & Development Administrator and Social Media Officer.

ABOUT YOU

You will be a strategic and confident communications professional with strong relationship-management skills and credible experience in membership, fundraising, development or stakeholder engagement.

You should have:

• A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, development, business, arts administration or a related field, or equivalent substantial professional experience.
• At least five years’ relevant professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering successful multi-channel communications and audience campaigns.
• Experience managing membership, customer, donor or stakeholder relationships.
• Experience preparing sponsorship proposals, grant applications, cases for support or funder reports.
• Excellent writing, editing, presentation and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with media, members, donors, corporate partners, government stakeholders and Board members.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating multiple priorities, deadlines and budgets.
• Strong judgement in relation to reputation, confidentiality, donor ethics, data protection and culturally responsible communication.
• A commitment to Caymanian art and culture, public service, inclusion and NGCI’s mission.

Experience in a museum, cultural, charitable, public-authority or other mission-led organisation would be advantageous. Knowledge of the Cayman Islands’ media, corporate, philanthropic and cultural sectors would also be beneficial.

This role is full-time (Monday to Friday - 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, but may require additional hours to meet deadlines. The compensation package for this role includes an annual salary range of KYD$60,060.00 – KYD$67,716.00, health and pension contributions, and benefits in accordance with the Labour Act, including an annual vacation entitlement.
