Role Overview

"Data without knowledge means nothing." At Hilti, we have access to a significant amount of data, but turning that data into meaningful business insights and impact requires both strong business understanding and deep knowledge of the data landscape. The Data Asset team supports bridging the gap between business and data. We support business stakeholders by translating their requirements and business questions into the specific data points, definitions, and data products required to address them. This support is essential to accelerate business initiatives by reducing the time required to identify, understand, and validate the relevant data.

Where information or data points are missing, the team works with the appropriate stakeholders and data providers to identify gaps and drive their resolution. To strengthen our data consultation capabilities, we are looking for a Data Consultant who can understand business requirements, challenge them when necessary, and contribute to the translation of clear and actionable data requirements. The role requires a strong combination of business acumen, analytical thinking, data expertise, and stakeholder management.

What does the role involve?

• Support the development of a thorough understanding of business use cases and support the translation into clear data requirements.
• Analyze available data to assess whether it fully addresses the identified business needs.
• Facilitate and clarify business requirements when processes, definitions, or expected outcomes are not sufficiently defined.
• Collaborate with and challenge data providers when required data points are unavailable, incomplete, or inconsistent.
• Apply a strong data quality mindset to support the identification of inconsistencies, gaps, and potential issues affecting business outcomes.
• Ensure alignment between business definitions, data definitions, and the way data is ultimately consumed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support business and data quality rules and controls to ensure data consistency, coherence, and fitness for purpose.
• Translate agreed business use cases into proposed data-product and data requirements, in coordination with the responsible business and data owners.
• Ensure data is correctly interpreted and used to answer business questions and support decision-making.
• Coordinate and track end-to-end requests for new data points, from initial business requirements through definition, implementation, validation, and availability.
• Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, data teams, and data providers to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and definitions.
• Identify data gaps and coordinate with the relevant stakeholders and follow-up on agreed remediation actions.
• Contribute to improving data transparency, data literacy, documentation, and overall data quality across the organization.

Success Measures:

• Business requests supported on time and with the correct data points and definitions.
• Reduction in the time required to translate business requirements into actionable data requirements.
• Effective identification and resolution of data gaps and inconsistencies.
• Improved data quality, consistency, and reliability from a business perspective.
• Increased confidence among business stakeholders in the data used for analysis and decision-making.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience working at the intersection of business and data, for example as a Data Analyst, Reporting Expert, Business Analyst, Data Consultant, or similar role.
• Strong ability to bridge the gap between business needs and the technical data landscape.
• Proven ability to translate business questions and processes into clear data requirements.
• Comprehensive understanding of data flows from a business perspective, including what data is required, where it originates, why it is needed, and how it can be accessed and used.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a particular focus on data quality and consistency.
• Ability to challenge requirements constructively and engage effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Technical Environment
