Last Mile Health saves lives in the world's most remote communities. Our vision is a health worker within reach of everyone, everywhere. We partner with governments to recruit, train, equip, and integrate professional community health workers into national health systems, equipping them to deliver quality primary care in rural and remote communities. Founded in Liberia in 2007, we now operate programs in Ethiopia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Malawi. Our global offices are located in Accra, Ghana and in the United States. We are looking for mission-driven leaders to join us as we work to ensure no patient is out of reach.
The Ethiopia team works in partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health to strengthen the country’s flagship Health Extension Program, a globally recognized model for delivering primary healthcare through more than 40,000 Health Extension Workers. Led by Abraham Zerihun, the team works to upskill the Health Extension Workers through blended learning that combines digital and in-person training. It also advances digital innovation through HEP Assist, an AI-powered clinical decision-support tool that helps Health Extension Workers provide evidence-based care at the point of service. The team's portfolio spans maternal, newborn, child health, nutrition, and non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, eye care, and stroke prevention and management, while strengthening health systems through sustainable community health financing, resource mapping, and strategic planning to support long-term government leadership and program sustainability.
At Last Mile Health, we work to deploy a health worker within reach of everyone, everywhere. Do you have a medical background, strong knowledge of Ethiopia’s Health Extension Program, and an interest in using artificial intelligence to strengthen clinical decision-making? If so, you may be the next Clinician (AI Validation & Training Specialist) with Last Mile Health in Ethiopia.
The Clinician (AI Validation & Training Specialist) is the clinical anchor for the HEP Assist AI project. Recognizing that the target interventions heavily focus on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH), this role requires a specialized medical doctor with deep knowledge of Ethiopia’s Health Extension Program (HEP). The Clinician will serve as the "human-in-the-loop," responsible for training the AI, monitoring its outputs, and acting as the ultimate safety layer. Across the project's phases, the Clinician will review and approve AI-generated responses, conduct live monitoring and intervention, and oversee risk-based quality assurance. The ideal candidate has a broad understanding of how Artificial Intelligence works, experience training AI models, and the ability to map complex clinical protocols to AI logic.
We are currently seeking to engage two consultants for this assignment. This role is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is open to candidates who are located in and have work authorization in Ethiopia. This consultancy requires in-person attendance at our Addis Ababa office from Monday through Friday.
