Decommissioning cost optimisation - task-force lead

To start as soon as possible, full time, 18-month fixed-term contract with potential later conversion to permanent.

As Decommissioning Cost Optimisation Task-Force Lead, you will own the strategic cost-optimisation agenda for offshore decommissioning and lead a senior, cross-functional task force. You will identify, prioritise and deliver portfolio-wide initiatives that reduce future decommissioning costs, protect value and strengthen readiness across RWE Offshore.

You will assess the full range of commercial, technical, regulatory and delivery levers; convert the highest-value opportunities into robust business cases; and establish a measurable, implementable roadmap for the coming years. Leading through a matrix structure, you will set direction, mobilise senior stakeholders, resolve dependencies and hold workstream owners accountable for outcomes. The role reports to a dedicated Cost Optimisation Steering Committee sponsored by the RWE Offshore CFO.

The role forms part of RWE Offshore’s wider decommissioning organisation and works in close partnership with the Decommissioning Lead, who remains accountable for the overall strategy, compliance, governance and consistent portfolio implementation. The Decommissioning Cost Optimisation Task-Force Lead is accountable for the cost and value agenda.

About the role

• Set the portfolio-wide ambition, value targets and decision framework for decommissioning cost optimisation.
• Own and maintain an integrated roadmap aligned with the overall RWE Offshore decommissioning strategy, investment priorities and risk appetite.
• Lead a senior, cross-functional task force, setting clear mandates, milestones and performance expectations while managing material risks, dependencies and delivery issues.
• Challenge strategic and technical proposals to maximise long-term value across current assets and future projects, including those with decommissioning horizons extending into the 2040s.
• Present evidence-based recommendations to the Cost Optimisation Steering Committee, secure decisions and sponsorship, and hold the organisation accountable for implementing approved initiatives.
• Establish the governance, capabilities and ownership required to sustain cost optimisation beyond the task force, and lead the transition into business as usual by the end of 2027.

Job requirements and experience

• A senior leadership track record combining enterprise-level strategic thinking, commercial judgement and hands-on delivery.
• Demonstrated accountability for complex, cross-functional transformation or value-creation programmes with material financial impact.
• The judgement to move confidently between strategic direction and critical operational detail, constructively challenging assumptions at both levels.
• Strong commercial, analytical and problem-solving capability, including experience building investment-grade business cases and tracking benefits realisation.
• Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders, build alignment and drive delivery across a complex matrix organisation without relying on direct authority.
• Clear, authoritative communication and excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to present recommendations credibly to senior governance forums and partner effectively with the Decommissioning Lead.
• Experience in offshore wind, energy-infrastructure decommissioning, major capital programmes or enterprise transformation is desirable.
