Job Description

Bring clean water where it matters most, and give a long-running project the structure it needs for the future. Our client is a Swiss grant-making foundation in development cooperation. For around 40 years, it has run a water project in Cameroon that builds and operates wells for the local population. Coordinating between Switzerland and Cameroon is demanding, and the local organisation now needs to be restructured both legally and structurally. The foundation is therefore looking for an interim manager to lead local operations full-time for 1–2 years, starting as soon as possible.

Your Responsibilities

  • You analyse the current structure and lead the restructuring of the local entity, both organisationally and in terms of staffing.
  • You resolve open legal matters on site and put the solutions in place, working with local experts where needed.
  • You represent the organisation towards authorities, partners and other stakeholders, and lead the necessary negotiations.
  • You coordinate with the management team in Switzerland and report to them regularly.
  • You keep the water project (wells and water supply) running smoothly throughout the restructuring.

Requirements

  • You have lived or worked in Africa and know how to deal with local authorities.
  • You have leadership experience, ideally with larger and intercultural teams.
  • You negotiate confidently and stay clear and ethical in sensitive situations such as corruption cases.
  • You speak French at native or business-fluent level. German is an advantage for coordinating with Switzerland.
  • A background in social work, development studies, law, management or a related field is a plus.
  • You are willing to relocate to Cameroon for 1–2 years.

Benefits

  • Start: as soon as possible
  • Duration: 1–2 years
  • Location: Cameroon (on site)
  • Workload: 100%
  • Salary: competitive, by agreement
