Vice-president or associate, equity derivatives & analytics

As part of the development of its new equity derivatives desk, Desjardins Capital Markets is seeking a Montreal-based professional with a strong interest in financial markets, derivatives and the development of innovative quantitative solutions. The level of the position, Associate or Vice-President, will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience. As Vice-President or Associate, Equity Derivatives & Analytics, you will contribute directly to the growth of the new equity derivatives desk by developing tools, quantitative models and analytical solutions that support trading, risk management and equity financing activities. You will participate in building the capabilities required to develop both non-linear derivatives flow activities, including options and light exotics, as well as equity financing products (Delta One). Your analytical skills, ability to solve complex problems and high degree of autonomy will be essential to your success in this role. You will work in an entrepreneurial environment where many processes, tools and infrastructure components are still being built. This is a unique opportunity to grow alongside a newly established desk. Initially, the role will focus on leveraging your quantitative, analytical and technology skills. As the business expands, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibilities related to market activities, trading, inventory risk management and pricing.

More specifically, you will be required to:

• Initial phase: Infrastructure development
• Conduct applied research on the modelling of the various market parameters used in the valuation of equity derivatives.
• Perform historical quantitative analyses to improve the quality and robustness of the team's market-risk hedging strategies for its derivatives inventory / portfolio.
• Contribute to the development, validation and production implementation of market parameters used for derivatives valuation and risk management.
• Develop tools for position reconciliation, market-data validation and risk controls.
• Implement an automated alert system to monitor corporate events, mispricing, operational anomalies impacting our portfolio.
• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the desk's front-office infrastructure and to the implementation of a consolidated view of the team's positions and risks.

• Subsequent phase: Trading and risk management activities
• Work closely with desk members to develop an in-depth understanding of trading strategies and their associated risks.
• Participate in the ongoing market analysis and the identification of trading opportunities.
• Contribute to portfolio risk management, including pricing, trading and rebalancing.
• Take on increasing responsibilities related to decision-making and the desk's business development as the activity evolves.

What you bring to the table

• Bachelor's degree in finance or a quantitative discipline, such as financial engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science or physics
• Three to ten years of experience in financial markets, derivatives, quantitative finance or a related field
• Master’s degree is considered an asset
• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
• Experience in, or a strong interest in, quantitative modelling and statistical methods applied to financial markets
• Significant experience developing analytical tools, automation solutions or data-management capabilities
• Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking partners, members and/or clients
• Strong understanding of and interest in financial markets, trading and derivatives
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL programming
