Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre relieves pressures on our healthcare system by consolidating the services that don’t require an overnight stay, into one stand-alone facility. The Centre provides a complete range of scheduled outpatient services, including day surgery, diagnostic services and specialized health clinics. It features over 100 examination rooms and six operating rooms, more than 50 clinics, including the world-renowned Breast Health Clinic, a comprehensive medical imaging floor with two MRIs, including a donor-supported new 3 Tesla MRI and a pain management facility which treats 800 patients a month.

Detailed Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Radiological Technology and the Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Radiological Technologist, practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).

The Radiological Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic/fluoroscopic and medical imaging procedures/techniques and related duties, observing safe radiation protection practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the Radiology Information System (RIS), preparing patients for examination, operating radiographic and computerized imaging equipment including processing radiographs and archiving of acquired data, monitoring patient during procedures, monitoring equipment performance and maintaining cleanliness of examination rooms.

Responsibilities

• Performs all general duty radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures consistent with established standards, procedures, radiation protection practices and protocols.
• Completes procedures using appropriate equipment, labels permanent records, maintains and updates records in RIS/PACS and checks resultant images for technical quality.
• Explains procedures and gives instructions to patients/clients.
• Ensures relevant clinical data is collected for the procedures requested.
• Prepares contrast agents required for examinations.
• Monitors patient care and safety by ensuring procedures adhere to department standards and policies.
• Participates in the instruction of employees and/or students.
• Participates in approved research and special projects.
• Cleans and tests equipment for status of imaging.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience: Certification with the CAMRT.
