Job Title: Junior Accountant

Job Description

The Junior Accountant supports the corporate accounting function with a strong focus on detailed reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis. This role requires a solid corporate accounting experience and a hands-on approach to investigating variances, reconciling intercompany transactions, and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of balance sheet and profit & loss (P&L) reporting across corporate divisions. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, contribute to month-end and year-end close activities, and help maintain robust accounting processes and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries related to corporate accounting activities.
  • Manage and review purchase orders, corporate expenses, and audit-related fees, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and alignment with accounting policies.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations, with a strong emphasis on balance sheet accounts, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and review elimination entries and reconcile intercompany transactions between corporate entities.
  • Analyze balance sheet and P&L accounts to confirm accuracy, completeness, and appropriate financial presentation.
  • Investigate and resolve variances, discrepancies, and outages through in-depth analysis and reconciliation work.
  • Perform variance analysis for corporate divisions, identify root causes, and provide clear explanations to stakeholders.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes by completing assigned tasks accurately and within required timelines.
  • Assist with audit requests by preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve accounting issues and continuously improve reconciliation processes.
  • Maintain and enhance documentation of accounting procedures, reconciliations, and related controls.
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned work and proactively follow through on issues until resolution.

Essential Skills

  • 25 years of experience in corporate accounting, including journal entries, purchase orders, expenses, audit fees, account reconciliations, and elimination entries.
  • Proven experience investigating outages and variances, reviewing balance sheet and P&L accounts, and performing variance analysis for corporate divisions.
  • Hands-on experience reconciling intercompany transactions between corporate entities.
  • Large ERP system experience, such as SAP, NetSuite, or Oracle.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and formulas.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to step back, review information critically, and assess whether results make sense.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with different departments.
  • Demonstrated ownership of work and accountability for accuracy and completeness.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • CPA designation or enrollment in a CPA program.
  • Experience with large or national public accounting firms, including financial reporting exposure.
  • Experience in a similar industry to corporate divisional reporting environments.
  • Experience supporting audit processes and responding to auditor requests.
  • Interest in professional growth, with opportunities to transition into a permanent role based on performance.
  • Eligibility for benefits support related to CPA program participation if hired into a permanent position.
