Job Summary

Locates, Laterals and Grants implements the following: Drinking Water Loss Program, Sewer Inflow & Infiltration Program, Sanitary and Storm Sewer Lateral Replacement, Rehabilitation and Maintenance Programs, replacement/updating of lead piping in water distribution system, Residential Protective Plumbing Program, Backflow Prevention Program, storm water management condition assessment and retrofit projects, capacity management coordination, provides underground utility locates for water and sewer infrastructure, and provides technical input and coordination of other asset related projects, including new asset acquisition, and lifecycle projects, studies or special projects on behalf of operational client branches.

You assist with program delivery using in-house and external resources for the sewer lateral, water service replacement and protective plumbing programs city-wide, as well as the contracts development process, contractor selection process, and program development.

You administer and coordinate multiple, sewer lateral replacements and water service replacements being conducted simultaneously, including all assigned activities from planning, organizing, controlling, consultation to implementation. You also monitor, track and report on project status, and ensure all maintenance records are updated.

Education and Experience

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, with CET status. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible and practical experience related to the municipal sewer and/or water systems.

Certifications and Licences

Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT, or able to obtain certification within the timeframe determined by the employer.

Knowledge

• Engineering planning, design, operations and construction/rehabilitation of municipal structures, infrastructure and utilities;
• Process for tendering and contracting work;
• Computer applications in an engineering environment pertaining to municipal design, project management, spreadsheet, database, CMMS, (computer maintenance management system) word processing, e-mail and use of the Intra-Internets;
• Confined space entry policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

• Ability to work overtime on a request basis.

What You Need to Know

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing.

Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.

You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
