Patent liaison

The position involves evaluations of invention disclosures coming from Mayo's research and clinical activities and assistance in processing these disclosures and any resulting patent applications. Specifically, the Liaison would:

• assist in identifying potentially patentable inventions;
• provide background materials, such as prior art searches;
• assist in drafting patent applications;
• assist in evaluating all patent correspondence, including the review of cited art with investigators;
• assist in right to use searches by identifying and evaluating third party intellectual property requirements;
• assist in preliminary analysis of patent threats related to current Mayo products;
• assist in educating Mayo Clinic staff regarding patent issues.

Where such activities will become part of legal analysis or legal risk assessments, such work is performed at the direction and oversight of Mayo internal counsel and/or external legal counsel delegated to that role by Mayo.

This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic site.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Sciences or Business and a minimum of two years in an academic or equivalent experience in a corporate environment with a dedicated staff of intellectual property professionals and well established IP management and protection policies required.

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be detailed oriented, be able to manage large number of on-going projects simultaneously and effectively communicate as a liaison among inventors, Department of Business Development and Patent Counsel.

Must pass the Patent Agent exam within one year of employment.

Advanced degree like a Master's or PhD is preferred.
