POSITION SPECIFICS

An Academic Adviser is being sought to join our innovative team of advisors in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing (Nese CON), working in our newly renovated Student Success Center in the Nursing Sciences Building.

The dynamic, student-centered Academic Adviser will provide comprehensive advising for traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing students (resident instruction) and online Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) nursing students.

The Academic Adviser will also participate in recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives across the Nese CON.

This is a hybrid position that requires three days per week of on-site work and offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to support students through their academic journey.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Academic Advising and Student Success

• Provide academic advising and support to prelicensure undergraduate and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN) nursing students, helping them navigate degree requirements, academic policies, and educational planning.
• Guide students through course registration, academic progression, transfer credit evaluations, and other student success processes.
• Assist students in addressing academic, personal, and transitional challenges by connecting them with appropriate resources and support services.
• Support students' academic, career, and professional goals through individualized advising and coaching.

Admissions, Recruitment, and Outreach

• Participate in recruitment, admissions, orientation, and outreach activities to attract and support prospective and newly admitted students.
• Present information about the Nese CON programs and respond to inquiries from prospective students and families.
• Support new student onboarding and orientation initiatives.

Collaboration and Program Support

• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success and ensure consistent application of academic policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate student records and advising documentation while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with University policies.
• Contribute to advising initiatives, special projects, committees, and continuous improvement efforts within the Nese CON.
• Engage in professional development and stay current on advising best practices, student support strategies, and University policies.

Qualifications:

• Desire to support a variety of learners, including first-generation students, adult learners, military-connected students, and students from all backgrounds with inclusive advising practices.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; inclusive and respectful when working with and supporting others.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
• Skilled at helping individuals navigate processes, solve problems, and make informed decisions.
• Ability to foster engagement through active listening, responsiveness, and relationship-building.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing needs, respond to time-sensitive requests, and consistently meet deadlines.

It is also preferred that candidates have one or more of the following qualifications:

• Previous experience working in higher education with undergraduate students.
• Experience with navigating platforms such as Starfish and LionPATH (Penn State's student information system).

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Required Certifications: None.

This position will report to the Interim, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Nursing Education.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $59,580.00 - $86,400.00.
