Senior functional business analyst (m/f/d)

About We are looking for an experienced Senior Functional Business Analyst to join an international IT environment and support strategic application management, demand management and IT portfolio governance. The position offers a hybrid working model with onsite presence in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

In this role, you will work closely with senior business and IT stakeholders to translate complex business needs into structured, actionable initiatives. You will contribute to portfolio-level decision-making, ensuring that business initiatives are clearly defined, aligned with strategic objectives and ready for successful delivery.

Your responsibilities

• support IT portfolio management activities, from initial demand intake and business requirements clarification to initiative preparation and handover to delivery teams
• collaborate with senior business and IT stakeholders to understand business needs, define priorities and support strategic decision-making
• translate complex business requirements into structured initiatives, including objectives, scope, expected outcomes, business value, risks and dependencies
• analyse business processes and application landscapes to identify gaps, improvement opportunities, constraints and potential risks
• prepare business requirements, use cases, process maps and functional documentation to support portfolio governance and delivery readiness
• support initiative prioritisation and roadmap planning, ensuring alignment with business objectives, available resources and delivery capacity
• evaluate alternative approaches and scenarios, providing clear recommendations and evidence-based input for management decisions
• maintain and improve functional documentation, including business processes, responsibilities, policies, data standards and KPIs
• act as a bridge between business stakeholders and IT delivery teams, ensuring a shared understanding of business expectations and requirements
• identify opportunities for process optimisation, innovation and digital transformation across business applications and ERP environments
• proactively manage risks and dependencies and ensure that approved initiatives are sufficiently defined before entering the delivery phase

What do we expect?

• 5+ years of professional experience in Functional Business Analysis, Strategic Business Analysis, Product Management, Portfolio Management or a similar role
• strong stakeholder management skills, including experience collaborating with senior management and business leadership
• proven experience in business requirements analysis, process mapping, use case definition and preparation of structured business documentation
• experience with demand management, portfolio governance, initiative prioritisation or IT roadmap planning
• good understanding of Agile methodologies and the relationship between portfolio-level decisions and IT delivery
• strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify business risks, dependencies and improvement opportunities
• ability to translate complex business challenges into clear, structured and decision-ready initiatives
• excellent communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence senior stakeholders
• proactive, independent and structured working approach, with the ability to manage evolving requirements and incomplete information
• fluent English
