The Akamai Workspace Protector Research team investigates evolving threats to the modern workspace and turns findings into stronger product capabilities and research shared with the security community. You will have the freedom to pursue original ideas, handle complex security challenges, and help define what we investigate next.
Explore your next research challenge
You will have room to pursue open-ended research, explore new ideas, and independently lead complex projects from an initial question through validation and publication. Staying current with emerging technologies and understanding how they change the attack surface are central to our work.
As a Security Researcher, you will be:
- Pursuing original security research to discover vulnerabilities, uncover new attack techniques, and strengthen protection for the modern workspace.
- Reverse-engineering software to support the product and conduct vulnerability research.
- Designing experiments and developing proofs of concept and tools to validate research findings.
- Translating attack techniques into detections and validating their effectiveness.
- Publishing research and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Tracking new AI platform, browser, IDE, and desktop capabilities, and testing for new attack paths or detection gaps.
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 3+ years of experience in security research, vulnerability research, or reverse engineering.
- Demonstrate an understanding of operating system internals.
- Be capable of independently leading complex research projects from concept to publication.
- Have impressive analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Have hands-on experience with debugging and software analysis tools, with the ability to investigate unfamiliar applications independently.
- Be able to learn unfamiliar technologies and develop testable research hypotheses quickly.
Nice to have:
A track record of published research, such as technical blogs, CVEs, or conference talks.
- Coding skills for building research tools, automating analysis, or developing proofs of concept.
- Experience translating research findings into detections, including validating effectiveness and investigating false positives.
