Role: SAP Finance and Controlling Solution Architect

Smith & Nephew (S+N) is a large multinational Medical Technology organization with an extensive Enterprise Applications ecosystem to run end-to-end business operations. ERPs form the core of this ecosystem and are tightly integrated with best-in-class systems such as Salesforce, Windchill, Movemedical, Maestro, Ariba, Workday and many more. At S+N, SAP serves as our primary and strategic ERP platform, running 80% of our operations and revenue.

We are seeking an SAP Finance Solution Architect to design and deliver SAP solutions and customizations aligned with business requirements in Record-to-Report process area, while supporting and preparing for our strategic transition to SAP S/4HANA. Therefore, this role is both strategic and pivotal, playing a key part in enabling Smith & Nephew's digital transformation and continued growth over the coming years.

What will you be doing?

This role demands deep expertise in SAP Finance, coupled with significant experience leading large-scale SAP transformation programs. The architect will drive the design of streamlined, scalable, and future-ready finance processes, leveraging standardization, automation, and embedded controls to maximize business value.

As a key design authority, the Finance Solution Architect will lead the development of the global finance template, ensuring it supports target operating models, business agility, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategic objectives rather than simply replicating existing processes.

• Accountable for designing end-to-end technical solutions that achieve business objectives and align with enterprise architecture standards
• Ensure solutions meet established quality standards, technical constraints, security requirements, scalability expectations, and performance objectives.
• Provide leadership and governance to internal and HCL functional experts, ensuring successful delivery of business outcomes.
• Provides governance and oversight across the delivery lifecycle, with responsibility for validating technical integrity, ensuring architectural compliance, and approving solution readiness for deployment.
• Lead the design, delivery, and governance of SAP solutions across global releases, projects, enhancements, and transformation programs.
• Provide expert L3 support for Live countries and ensure stability, reliability, and optimal performance of business-critical SAP applications.
• Govern solution changes through Design Authority processes, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, global standards, and long-term strategic objectives.
• Champion continuous improvement and innovation by leveraging emerging SAP capabilities and industry best practices to enable business growth and transformation.

What will you need to be successful?

Education: Bachelor’s / Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, IT or related subject preferred.

Licenses/ Certifications:

• SAP certification: SAP certifications in related module is preferred.
• ITIL Qualifications is a plus.

Experience: At least 12 years of IT experience, with 8+ years in SAP in delivering full-cycle ERP implementations, including the deployment of global template solutions across multiple countries, regions, and business units.

This role will be based in Pune, Hybrid- work model, 2 days working from office.

Deep functional expertise across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Accounting, Banking, Cost Center Accounting, Internal Orders, Product Costing (CO-PC), Profit Center Accounting, and Profitability Analysis (CO-PA).

Proven experience designing and governing end-to-end finance processes, including Record-to-Report (R2R), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) integrations.

Strong understanding of SAP Finance integration with Sales & Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), and Supply Chain processes.

Experience in solution architecture, global template design, fit-gap analysis, business process harmonization, and deployment governance.

Proven track record of participating in and leading complex, large-scale transformation programs, including multi-system, cross-module, and global template implementations.

Extensive functional experience with SAP ECC 6.0 EHP7 or later releases including Universal Journal (ACDOCA), Central Finance, and Financial Closing processes; exposure to SAP HANA and S/4HANA environments is highly desirable.

Broad knowledge of additional SAP functional areas is an advantage, enabling effective collaboration on cross-functional initiatives and integrated solution design.

Proven ability to design, govern, and support cross-functional solutions, with a strong understanding of end-to-end business processes, system dependencies, and integration touchpoints.

Experience working within regulated industries, particularly Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, or the broader Life Sciences sector, is preferred.

Minimum of seven years of SAP functional consulting and solution delivery experience in complex, multinational environments.

Demonstrated success working with globally distributed teams and managing stakeholders across multiple geographies, cultures, and time zones.

Strong vendor and stakeholder management capabilities. Solid functional and technical expertise in SAP business processes and operating models.

Ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed, cross-cultural teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
