Job Description

Location: Edinburgh, Hybrid.

In this position, you’ll be based in the Edinburgh office for a minimum of three days a week, with the flexibility to work from home for some of your working week. If you have a remote location recorded in Fusion this arrangement will continue to be honoured if you are successful in your application, provided that:

  • You have a formal accommodation due to a disability, medical or legal reason that enables you to work remotely
  • You’re a redeployment candidate who is under notice of redundancy
  • You were moved to a remote contract as your office closed, and you don't live near any of our current offices

We give you a world of potential

Within this role you will lead solution architecture and design activities, translating complex business requirements into secure, scalable, and resilient technology solutions. You will ensure that all designs adhere to established architectural principles, security standards, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining alignment with the organisation’s strategic objectives and technology roadmap.

This role requires a highly collaborative individual who can work effectively across business, product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to drive architectural consistency, encourage solution reuse, and accelerate delivery.

As a trusted advisor, the Senior Solution Architect will guide stakeholders through key design decisions, assess architectural trade-offs, and ensure solutions remain fit for purpose both now and as future business needs evolve.

A role you will love

This role provides strategic direction and technical leadership across the Document Intelligence landscape, including intelligent document processing, workflow orchestration, AI/ML classification, OCR, API-led integration, event-driven architectures, automation platforms, data architecture, monitoring and observability, and operational governance.

Working closely with the Issuer Services and AI Architecture community, the Senior Solution Architect will contribute to defining and implementing technical strategies that drive consistency and excellence.

Other key responsibilities:

  • Define and govern the global target-state architecture, roadmaps, standards, and reusable patterns for Document Intelligence across IDP, OCR, AI/ML, workflow orchestration, integrations, data, and observability.
  • Design scalable solutions leveraging OCR, computer vision, machine learning, LLMs, and generative AI, incorporating robust governance, explainability, human oversight, and risk controls.
  • Lead API-first, event-driven, and microservices architecture, establishing enterprise patterns for document ingestion, classification, extraction, workflow routing, and transaction processing.
  • Ensure adherence to security, privacy, regulatory, audit, records management, and AI governance requirements through architecture reviews and design governance.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, define target architectures and migration strategies, and drive innovation through technology assessments and proofs of concept.
  • Support delivery teams through solution design, architecture assurance, technical risk management, implementation guidance, and operational readiness.
  • Partner with business, product, architecture, security, risk, compliance, and delivery stakeholders to provide clear architectural direction and executive-level recommendations.
  • Maintain key architecture deliverables, including reference architectures, roadmaps, solution designs, decision records, integration standards, governance frameworks, and risk assessments.

What will you bring to the role?

You will bring a blend of strategic thinking, technical depth, and stakeholder influence, driving architectural excellence, shaping our technology future, and elevating engineering capability across the organisation.

Some other key skills that you’ll have:

  • Strong experience in enterprise architecture, integration, distributed systems, and complex multi-technology environments.
  • Proven expertise in intelligent document processing, OCR, workflow/BPM, AI/ML, cloud platforms, and API-led integration.
  • Demonstrated success designing and delivering scalable enterprise solutions using microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven architectures, and distributed services.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing cloud-based applications and business solutions across multiple channels.
  • Strong technical leadership, with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and specialist teams across large-scale programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, consulting, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-focused outcomes.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of guiding architecture through delivery and operational adoption.
