Information Governance Manager

Band 3 / £70,000 - £80,000 (dependent on experience)

Here at Serco, we're looking for an Information Governance Manager to strengthen how information is understood, owned, retained and managed across Serco UK.

Reporting to the Data Protection Officer, you'll lead the governance of Records of Processing Activities, processing inventories, information ownership, retention and deletion, and information lifecycle standards. You'll create the discipline and accountability needed to keep critical governance records current, controlled and capable of supporting compliance, assurance and sound decision-making.

This is an opportunity to shape practical, organisation-wide standards and work with business owners, Procurement, Growth, Legal, IT, Information Security and Privacy colleagues to embed better information governance across a complex, regulated environment.

As part of this you’ll:

• Own the RoPA governance approach and oversee the quality, completeness and periodic review of processing inventories.
• Lead OneTrust governance, data quality standards, lifecycle controls and platform improvement priorities for the UK Privacy Office.
• Develop and maintain information ownership and accountability frameworks across business units and functions.
• Own retention and deletion frameworks, disposal standards and related compliance monitoring.
• Maintain the processor register and establish effective third-party processing governance and assurance standards.
• Improve data mapping, information lifecycle practices and supporting documentation.
• Use data quality themes, incidents, assurance findings and stakeholder feedback to prioritise improvement activity.
• Provide clear reporting to the Data Protection Officer on governance risks, progress, coverage and decisions required.

What you’ll need to do the role:

• Experience in information governance, records management, privacy operations, data governance, compliance or risk management.
• Practical experience of RoPA, processing inventories, retention standards, data mapping or comparable governance records.
• A good understanding of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and information lifecycle principles.
• Experience working with business owners to establish accountability and resolve ownership or data quality gaps.
• Knowledge of governance platforms such as OneTrust, or a similar system, would be beneficial.

The ability to translate governance requirements into clear, workable standards, processes and guidance.
