Senior ai risk manager (hybrid; m/f/x/d; 80-100%)

We are looking for a Senior AI Risk Manager to help ensure that our AI-enabled transformation delivers its intended business value while remaining aligned with Swiss Re's risk appetite and governance standards.

About the Role

This is not a traditional governance or compliance role. You will be the main Risk Manager for a strategic AI initiative, ensuring that the right pre-requisites are in place for AI-powered solutions to be deployed and scaled within risk appetite and giving senior management a clear risk view at key decision points.

The role brings together strategic judgement, practical AI-risk understanding and strong expertise in the (re)insurance value chain. You will work closely with project teams, senior executives and specialist functions to support innovation while ensuring that governance, model, data, operational, regulatory and strategic risks are appropriately understood and managed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead risk identification, assessment, mitigation and coordination across Swiss Re's group-wide AI programme
• Partner with project teams and senior business leaders across P&C, L&H, Corporate Solutions, Underwriting, Operations, Claims and Digital & Technology to identify material risks, dependencies and critical decisions
• Independently challenge business cases and solution designs, including the financial and operational assumptions underpinning expected benefits, and monitor whether risk exposure, performance and realized benefits remain consistent with the approved business case and agreed risk appetite, escalating material deviations or concerns where appropriate
• Assess and challenge whether appropriate governance, controls and guardrails are effectively embedded throughout the AI lifecycle and progressively strengthened as solutions mature and transition into business-as-usual operations
• Provide senior management and governance bodies with concise, balanced and decision-oriented advice on risks, uncertainties, options and trade-offs
• Identify recurring themes across individual initiatives and translate them into enterprise-level decisions, common risk positions and reusable controls
• Coordinate specialist input from AI Governance, Model Validation, Digital & Technology, Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Affairs and Internal Audit, ensuring that relevant perspectives are brought together effectively
• Strengthen Swiss Re's AI risk community through coaching, practical guidance, knowledge sharing and the development of consistent risk-management practices

About the Team

You will be joining the Risk Management team supporting Swiss Re's strategic AI initiative — a group-wide programme at the forefront of Swiss Re's ambition to become a leading AI-powered re/insurer. The team is responsible for ensuring that AI-enabled solutions are deployed and scaled within Swiss Re's risk appetite, governance standards and regulatory requirements. Working across business units and specialist functions, the team provides independent risk oversight, strategic challenge and decision-relevant guidance to senior management and governance bodies at key milestones throughout the AI transformation journey.

About You

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

• 8+ years of relevant experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, ideally across business roles such as underwriting, portfolio management, operations, strategy or transformation
• Hands-on business experience in the (re)insurance industry, complemented by experience in Risk Management or other control functions — these are pre-requisites for applying
• Proven experience in major transformation programmes or complex strategic initiatives, including the ability to assess business cases and financial assumptions
• Practical understanding of AI and AI-related risks across the lifecycle, including model performance, data, human oversight, third-party dependencies, operational resilience and the evolving regulatory landscape
• A track record of advising senior executives and translating complex issues, uncertainties and trade-offs into clear, decision-relevant recommendations

• Demonstrated ability to lead work independently, navigate ambiguity and identify what needs to happen without relying on detailed direction
• Strong strategic and commercial judgement, with the ability to connect individual project risks to broader business, portfolio and enterprise implications
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively while building trusted relationships

Salary Information

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 128000 CHF and 192000 CHF for a full-time role.

• the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Furthermore, you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
