Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) is a utilities organization established in 1902 by a special act of the New Jersey State Legislature to combat pollution of the Passaic River and its tributaries. Headquartered at 600 Wilson Avenue in Newark, NJ, the Commission serves a heavily industrialized area of northern New Jersey spanning 48 municipalities across Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Union, and Hudson Counties, serving a population of roughly 1.4 million. Its infrastructure includes a 22-mile main intercepting sewer, 18 miles of branch intercepting sewers, and a six-fingered ocean outfall extending into New York Harbor, supported by around 2,000 miles of lateral sewers maintained by contributing towns. With an influent capacity of about 330 million gallons per day—representing roughly a quarter of New Jersey's total wastewater—PVSC employs more than 230 people and is led by Executive Director Gregory A. Tramontozzi, Esq., alongside senior leaders overseeing operations, engineering, finance, administration, and legal affairs.
